The Countdown

I thought about attaching a music clip of ‘The Final Countdown’ with that cheesy synth they use, but I will save you all the torture of having to listen to that

A day away from the trip and now I’m completely wired… buzzing with anticipation and excitement, mixed in with the feelings of uncertainty and the freaking out stage. A couple of weeks ago, while walking through a paddock, I was trying to imagine what the same experience would be like on a walking safari in Africa where at any moment a lion, rhino, elephant or some other animal could pop into view. We have peiced everything back together again when we found an alternative tour to replace our cancelled one. It’s not the most elegant solution as we have to chop off a couple of days at the end of the tour in order to make the start of the next one. Just means we don’t get to spend any time in Cape Town, which is a bit of a bummer! As for Kenya… I thought it was settling, that was until last Friday. Most of the trouble seems to be in the west now, I think Nairobi is back to normal. It would be a pity to miss out on seeing Lake Nakuru due to the rioting that’s been going on in Nakuru the last few days.

Thanks to all those who came out on Saturday night to catch up and farewell me. I should have my mobile phone on me most of the time in Africa. Not sure on signal over there but I hear it’s pretty good, so feel free to SMS me if you like otherwise I should be checking my gmail email address occassionally anyway. Just don’t ring me! lol, it costs too much to even recieve a call over there!

I have just taken my first of many malaria tablets. A couple of things for me to pick up at the chemist today, but other than that I’m pretty much set, now I just have to wait…. wait for the flying to start. We have 3 connecting flights over there, our longest being just over 14 hours, with our total scheduled time from Adelaide to our first Africa destination being 29 hours and 10 minutes! I really hope I get some sleep on the flights this time!
