Summary:
- Lazy days
- Night souk and Dubai creek at night
The last couple of days we pretty much bummed around the hotel. We were both feeling a little knackered and I wasn’t feeling the best with the plumbing issues. We surfed through all 650+ satellite channels and only found a handful in English. I was surprised at the number of live chat sex channels and Christian channels, since over here any public displays of affection are frowned upon, and adultery and preaching of non-Muslim religions is illegal.
On Monday night we ventured out to check out the night life of Bur Dubai. We walked along Dubai Creek, where all the dhows were lit up with fairy lights and coloured lights and the skyscrapers lining the creek were illuminated. We went to the Night Souk along there and then through the markets and rides which are there as part of DSF 2008 (Dubai Shopping Festival). We bought a really tasty banana and chocolate snack that we will have to try making when we come home.
On Tuesday, we did pretty much nothing except watch some tv and pick up some healthier food to make some veggies for tea and for lunch tomorrow. We also went back to the bakery we’d found on Thursday last week, where everything was really cheap. Croissants were 2.5 Dhs, which is only 75 cents and cinnamon buns were 2 Dhs, only 60 cents! On our way back to the hotel we saw 4 dogs, that’s our new record for number of dogs seen in one day (very exciting I know)
I’m also starting to get used to the Arabic accents over here, the first few days I struggled to understand the locals speaking English. We are also more geographically-oriented now, so able to find our way around without a map. Our confidence levels have increased immensely since our first day here. We still hate the toilets over here though!

Hey mate. Glad to see you starting to adjust and become settled.
Nice pics too!
Can you update us on your itinerary and travel plans next.
Crows are playing Collingwood in Dubai on 9 Feb 2008! You going to see it?
Take care mate.
D
Cheers mate.
Unfortunately we leave Dubai tomorrow morning (9 Feb 2008), so won’t be able to make the game vs Collingwood, otherwise I’d be going! Haven’t seen them around the place, but they’re probably staying south of us in the beach areas which are much more modern and fancy.
We’re off to Nairobi tomorrow, then to Tanzania where we start safari-ing, wo hoo!
